We were told that prior to the Powells' purchase of the house the owner was considering bulldozing the house. That would have been a shame because it is truly part of Murphy history, in a way. The story is that the house was built in the early forties by a local doctor by the name of Taylor. The exterior of the house is local marble, the same material used on the old hospital in downtown and one or two other buildings in town. Needless to say the house was in bad need of attention, it had set empty for some ten years. We remodeled and or renovated every room in the house. I'm sure glad it wasn't tore down and am proud of the outcome.
